What is Hemp?
Hemp aka Industrial Hemp is a domesticated crop that has been used for paper, textiles, and rope for thousands of years. There are several varieties of the cannabis plant, hemp is a non-psychoactive (less than .3%THC) variety of Cannabis sativa L. Hemp and marijuana come from the same cannabis species, however they are genetically distinct and further distinguished by their uses, chemical makeup, as well as cultivation methods.
What is CBD?
Cannabis plants contain compounds called Cannabinoids. Currently there a over 60 different known cannabinoids so far, with THC being the most well known. THC is known for causing the marijuana high. Hemp and marijuana plants also contain another important cannabinoid: CBD. Hemp plants produce more CBD than THC, while marijuana produces more THC than CBD. Research has shown that CBD's reduce the psychoactive effects of THC.
